Budgies

After athletics we all got in the car. We were past Upper Hutt before either of the kids asked where we were going.

We were going to Kaitoke to look at budgies. Derek had found the phone number of a girl who had advertised budgies for sale. As it turns out we had bought budgies from her 6 or 7 years ago.

We ended up getting all 9 she had for sale - and paid the price we could have got 2 for from Animates.

We brought them home in little cages, and as it was dark when we got home, we left them in there for the night but inside the aivery. Hannah was awake early wanting to let them out. Stuart wasn't far behind her as he wanted to let Sharn out (one had been called Sharn and Stuart's friend is Sharn)

They came out quite quickly and were sitting happily on branches when we left them.

As soon as Hannah arrived home from school she was wanting to go and see "her" birds. Not just to look at them from the outside of the aivery but to get inside the aivery !!!!

Athletics Day

Althlectics Day finally arrives. There was to have been a Fun Day a couple of Sunday's ago but it was postponed due to the track being too wet.Monday was fine and warm. Great excitement - particularly from Hannah who had been counting down the days .....About 80 - 100 kids from pre-school to 16 were there. They were split into 4 age groups and taken off to do different activities.

First of all were warm up exercises

The littlies had sack races. Lots of fun.

Running the 800m is a long way - especially when you get the stitch within the first 300m
Stuart doing his standing long jump ..... and having a rest

The little ones had a moon hopper race. Hannah looses her hat but still enjoys it. Look at the grin.

Hannah's off and running - sprinting to the finishline - look both feet are off the ground at the same time !!!
Stuart running the 75m sprint. Putting his all into it

Completing the Bird Aviary

We have had a part completed bird aviary for some time. All the bits (more or less) but never quite got it done - busy or wet weekends don't help.

One of Hannah's teachers has doves which have had babies. She has been talking to the class about the babies and Hannah told her we had an aviary with no birds in it. Tracy offered us her two baby doves.

So today was the day to complete the aviary. Paul came to visit and ended up staying most of the day helping.
Derek and Paul put the plastic cladding on the sides and roof, attached the second door, hung branches for perches, and a clip on the inside of the door.
A trip to the pet shop for seed, seed bowl and water bowl, but they had no budgies for sale.

Barbara checked on the progress every now and then.

Hannah decided that she had to make some things for the birds with wood nails and rope. It was a very serious business.

Fireworks Spectacular

Last night we went to the Firework Spectacular in Upper Hutt. It was very cold. Before we left Mum and Dad told me and Stuart to take warm clothes. I decided to take two baby blankets but didn’t want to wear my swandry. Mum and Dad made me wear it.
We we got to the park Dad took me for a play in the playground before we went into to the park. When we came back to the car Dad's nose was frozen even though he had his big swandry on.
We had a picnic tea at the park and then I decided that I was cold and tired. I got grumpyy cos my baby blankets weren't big enough to cover me up. In the end Dad put Mum's swandry over me too and gave me the picnic backpack to put my head on. I had a little rest but not a sleep, then Dad came back with some glowsticks for us. Glasses for me and Stuart and a stick one for Mum.

The glasses were too big for my little nose so in the end Dad had those glasses and I got Mum's stick - that was lots more fun as I could twirl it around. Stuart wasn't impressed with his glasses- he thought they were geeky. Stuart went for a walk and talked to some kids from his school.

The fireworks were really really good. They lasted 15 mins and were huge. Really pretty. The ones I liked best were the little red ones that gently floated down - they looked like red fairys flying.
It was very late when we got home.
Today I have been helping Dad in the garden. I have filled up a pot with compost so we can plant some plants in it but it has started to rain a little bit now.
